Appendix
Part features
The features a part's History is built from, in the order the code lists them. Each is one step you can edit, rename or delete. Every part exports as STL and STEP; STEP says whether a Body using the feature is written exact or faceted (flat facets, like an STL).
| Feature | In History | What it is | STEP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sketch | its own name | A flat drawing on a plane or on a face of the part. Draw a sketch first: the other features turn its closed shapes into solids. | Yes |
| Extrude | Extrude | Pushes a closed shape from a sketch straight out into a solid, or cuts it into one. The first solid feature of most parts. | Yes (exact) |
| Revolve | Revolve | Spins a sketch shape around a line to make something round, like a knob, a cup or a wheel. | Yes (faceted) |
| Thread | Thread | Adds a screw thread to a round surface, for a bolt or a screw-on lid. | Yes (faceted) |
| Loft | Loft | Blends between shapes on parallel planes, such as a square base rising to a round top. | Yes (faceted) |
| Gear | Gear | A spur gear made from its number of teeth and tooth size, ready to mesh with another gear of the same tooth size. | Yes (exact) |
| CycloidalDisk | Cycloidal Disc | The lobed disc at the heart of a cycloidal gearbox, which slows a motor down a lot in a small space. | Yes (faceted) |
| Storage | its own name | A Gridfinity bin or baseplate, or an openGrid board or snap, made to the published size; or a Gridfinity receiver or openGrid socket cut into your own Body so they fit it. | Yes (faceted) |
| Hole | Holes | Drills holes into a face of a Body: plain, counterbored or countersunk, sized for the screws that go in them. | Yes (faceted) |
| Shell | Shell | Hollows out a Body, leaving walls of the thickness you choose and its top or bottom open, as for a box or a cup. | Yes (exact) |
| Pattern | Pattern | Repeats a feature in a row, a grid or around a circle, so you make one and get many. | Yes (faceted) |
| Mirror | Mirror | Copies a feature to the other side of a plane, for parts that match left and right. | Yes (faceted) |
| Split | Split | Cuts a Body in two along a plane or a sketch's shape, as for a box and its lid. | Yes (faceted) |
| Outline | Outline from face | Copies the edges of a face into a sketch as ordinary lines you can change. Later changes to the solid don't move them. | Yes |
| Fillet | Chamfer or Fillet | Rounds the edges of an extruded shape, or bevels them flat as a chamfer. | Yes (exact; faceted for rounded edges on drafted extrudes) |
| HoleEdge | Hole Chamfer or Hole Fillet or Fillet | Rounds the rim of a round hole where it meets the face, or bevels it flat as a chamfer, the same size all the way round even on a curved wall. | Yes (faceted) |
| Import | its own name | A solid brought in from a STEP file. Each solid in the file becomes its own Body, with the name and colour the file gives it. Its shape stays as it came in; build your own features around it. | Yes (faceted) |
| CopyBody | Duplicate | A copy of a Body, placed beside the part. It follows the original's features, so changing them changes both. | Yes (faceted) |
| RemoveBody | Delete Body | Takes a Body out of the part. Its features stay in History, so deleting this step brings it back. | Yes (exact) |
